Meet 2Storeys
Influenced by the trip-hop and electronics scene combined with the more staple traditions of jazz, the Glasgow based 2Storeys create an alluring, hypnotic and sometimes ambitious fusion of appealing melodies, seductive grooves and intriguing samples.
Originating in 2007, founding members David Lang (Guitar & Programming), Al Mclntyre (Bass) and Darren Moyes (Drums & Percussion) wanted to create a musical collaboration that produced material more reminiscent of the sophisticated productions from contemporary electro style bands. This approach meant the band broke away from the traditions of the local rock scene in search of wider acceptance across the globe.
"We have such a wide range of musical influences and experience," said Darren, "with backgrounds in jazz, funk, soul, latin, celtic, electro, rock, we wanted to create something more collaborative and interesting musically." Al commented, "It had to be music that we would all be comfortable listening to and put alongside other albums that influence us." David added, "The music is a reflection of where the band members are at musically, we didn't want this to be just another Glasgow pop/rock band, but something more sophisticated and felt that we had to look further afield for acceptance".
2007 also saw the arrival of singer and charismatic front person Angie Gray. Her soulful vocals defined the direction of 2Storeys culminating in the release of their debut self-titled EP in 2008. Its three singles ranged from the euphoric, electro anthem 'Annabel Lee' to the more sultry 'Mosaic' and magnetic-pulse of 'Two Stories Up'. The EP met with critical praise, gaining the band some local recognition and an increased following.
"Angie's vocals and personality enhanced the music 100-fold", said Darren. "The songs are an honest reflection on life experiences", says Angie, "for example, Mosaic is about a relationship that has grown apart, whereas Quiet Conversation is about someone having an affair and trying to convince the other person to leave their partner for them. I don't want to be too serious though! other songs are more light hearted, such as Sleepless, which is simply about not being able to sleep while the person they love isn't there."
Working on their debut album for release in late 2010, the new material has stepped up a gear to characterise the discernible sound of 2Storeys. The new tracks combine exhilarating melodies with punchy, colourful odd-time numbers and epic, bold multi-layered productions.
Tours are planned to promote the album, which will be released on the band's own label. 2Storeys are determined to increase their profile internationally and take their rightful place at forefront of the electro-groove music scene.

Paul Rough The Fringe Review - "It takes a lot to sparkle up a fringe goers late evening after a day of culture but that's just what 2Storeys did when they took the stage the wrong side of 2:00am on Friday at The Establishment Live. The poor sound quality could not hide the fact that these guy's are highly capable musicians delivering a clever blend of jazz melodies with laid back cool grooves. If the suggested forthcoming album is anything like the bands live delivery then it will be worth waiting up for."
