Meet Jeff Saxon
Jeff Saxon is a diversely talented singer/songwriter/guitarist known for his memorable melodies, intelligently crafted lyrics and heartfelt soulful vocals. His compositions have earned him over 30 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and he is a former staff songwriter for the long-standing New York City-based publisher, Bourne Music.
One can easily detect the jazz, blues and old-school R&B leanings of Jeff's style, which has been compared to Eric Clapton, Keb' Mo', James Taylor, Bill Withers, Marc Cohn, Paul Carrack, and Michael McDonald. But no matter the comparisons, Saxon's vocal gifts are undeniable. IAE Magazine simply calls it "a great voice"; a Minor 7th reviewer said Saxon has "too much soul to be white?a voice that is utterly disarming..."
Jeff has released two other CD's: "Me, Myself, and I", in an all-acoustic format; and the fully-produced, "The Spin" (2006).
Jeff grew up on the Jersey Shore and returned to his New Jersey roots in 2006, after spending many years in the Los Angeles area. Some of his L.A. performance highlights included Genghis Cohen, Highland Grounds, Luna Park, The Independence Arts Festival and The Sounds Of The South Bay. Jeff also worked in the studio or shared the stage with well-known artists such as Dave Koz, Norman Brown, Hiroshima, N'Dea Davenport and Little Richard.
Speaking of the Jersey Shore, Jeff was recently commissioned to create and produce a song for the award winning documentary, "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ: The Movie". The filmmaker, Christina Eliopoulos, tackles the topic of eminent domain and the devastation it has on a community. The film has been airing on PBS stations nationwide.
Jeff's catalog of over 500 songs and compositions spans virtually every genre, but many of his tunes are amalgms of pop, blues, jazz, R&B, country and rock. Dozens of Jeff's songs and compositions have appeared in film and TV. One that Jeff is particularly proud of, is the dynamic pop ballad, "Journey Of The Heart" (co-written by Jeanne Smith), which was licensed by the N.C.A.A. (National Collegiate Athletic Association), who deemed it "the official anthem" of the N.C.A.A. Hall Of Champions facility in Indianapolis. It is also currently being featured in a video montage highlighting the career of Olympic gold medal soccer champion, Brandi Chastain.
Saxon's music has gotten some exposure outside the United States, too. The Brazilian-influenced Saxon song, "Never Knew Love" (co-written by Carina Norlund), was covered by Larry, a promising new pop-jazz artist from Belgium. Universal Music Group in Belgium distributes the disc, entitled "Just Call Me Larry". Jeff's music is also gaining popularity on Internet radio, particularly on jango.com.
Two national artist competitions have recognized Jeff's diverse musical talent in 2010: the Hottest New Artist competition (where he finished 3rd) and The Telluride Acoustic Blues competition, where Jeff will be in the finals in September.
