Meet Jake and the Leprechauns
Jake and the Leprechauns revolves around C-Antoine Gosselin, multi-instrumentalist, composer and lead singer, and Philippe Custeau, songwriter, guitarist and pedal steel player. The two friends started playing music together over a decade ago, and soon after began trading songs by mail. Gosselin had been honing his skills as a professional musician and producer for various artists in the Eastern Townships of Quebec and in Montreal, while Custeau completed his Doctorate in Chiropractic in Iowa and his Master's degree in creative writing in New Orleans.
Their first two albums, released in 2006 and 2008 respectively, feature guest appearances by some of Canada's finest musicians, including Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo, Wilco) and Jim Bryson (Tragically Hip, Howe Gelb, Kathleen Edwards). The albums have been critically acclaimed by the Canadian and international press. The band has opened for and played with some of the country's most respected acts since.
"At Midnight, The Birdsong" their third full-length release, was recorded with Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire) at The Mighty Hotel2Tango, and finds the band, along with friends Jim Guthrie, Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson), Jeremy Strachan (Rockets Red Glare, The Sea Snakes), and Angela Desveaux, in fine form. On this new collection of songs, Gosselin and Custeau elevate their trademark musicianship and evocative, literate songwriting to new heights. This is Jake and the Leprechauns at their catchiest and most poetic.
